Berhampur: Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda has been admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Berhampur city for treatment of his ear ailment.
Panda, who was suffering from aural and dental problems, was undergoing treatment in Berhampur Circle Jail where he is lodged after his arrest in 2014. After the doctors in the jail advised for operation on his ears, he was admitted to MKCG Hospital.
The Maoist leader is under treatment at the ENT ward of the hospital where a section of police force has been deployed to guard him. He will undergo operation on Wednesday for which his family members have been informed.
Panda, who was one of the most dreaded Maoist leaders in Odisha, was allegedly involved in several high-profile cases including murder of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati and his four associates in Kandhamal district in 2008. He was also allegedly involved in abduction of two Italian citizens in Kandhamal district in 2012 and the Nayagarh armoury loot.
