Bhubaneswar: BJP lawmaker from Dantewada, Bheema Mandavi, and DIG anti-Naxal operations P Sundar Raj were among at least five people killed when Maoists ambushed the MLA’s convoy in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh, on Tuesday, two days before the national elections begin, reports ANI.
A gunfight was still on. Among those killed is the lawmaker’s security officer, sources said.
The lawmaker was campaigning when his convoy was targeted. Photographs from the spot indicated the Maoists set off a blast through an improvised explosive device (IED), which killed five people instantly.
Chhattisgarh will be voting on April 11, 18 and 23.
