Phulbani: Panic gripped Damanapadar village under Phiringia police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district following the murder of a contractor by suspected Maoists late on Saturday.
According to reports, a group of armed Maoists barged into the village late in the night and called out for the local contractor Kailash Digal. Later, they took him to the outskirts of the village and shot him dead.
The villagers found the body of Digal on Sunday morning and informed the police.
Till reports last came in, police have rushed to the spot. Some Maoist posters and leaflets were found near the body of the contractor.
A joint combing operation by the Central force and the SOG personnel has begun in the area to track down the Left-wing extremists.
