Kandhamal: Maoists have reportedly killed a man on suspicion of being a police informer in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Monday.
As per reports, the Maoists forcibly took the victim, identified as Nilakantha Mallick of Kunasalu village under Baliguda police limits, from his house alleging that he was informing police about the banned outfit’s activities and movements.
Later, Nilakantha’s body was found in Tilak jungle under Pokharibandh reserve forest. Posters and banners of the Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division of the Maoists were found near the body. In the posters, the Maoists warned the people against acting as police informer and threatened of dire consequences, if they did not follow their diktat.
It may be noted that a woman Maoist cadre was killed in an encounter between security forces and the Left wing extremists (LWEs) in Sindhi forest on Kandhamal-Kalahandi border last week. Huge amount of weapons and camp materials were seized from the encounter spot.
The Maoists have claimed in the posters that killing of Nilakantha was part of their revenge against police encounter against them in Sindhi forest.
