Malkangiri: A youth was killed by Maoists at a village in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, close to the border with Odisha, on the suspicion of operating as a police informer, sources said on Saturday.
A group of around 15 armed Maoists stormed Khadkarao village under the jurisdiction of Forestgaon police station located on Odisha-Chhattisgarh border late on Friday night and barged into the house of the victim, identified as Ramlal Podai, they said.
The rebels dragged Podai out of his house and took him to a place on the outskirt of the village where they slit his throat, they said, adding that the assailants also left some poster and a hand-written letter near the body of the young man.
The letter recovered from the site accused Podai of functioning as an informer for the police and said he was punished for passing on information about the activities of the Maoists in the area.
The ultras, in their letter, also warned the police officials of Forestgaon police station. It further claimed that the act was carried out by the East Bastar difision of the CPI (Maoist), a banned outfit.
On getting information, a team of police personnel rushed to the village to conduct investigation into the incident, the sources added.
