Phulbani: Panic gripped Burdamaha village under K Nuagan police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district following the brutal murder of a youth by the suspected Maoists on Thursday night.
According to reports, a group of 8-10 armed Maoists barged into the village, dragged Ranjan Digal out his house and shot him dead in front of his family members. Later, they dumped the body near a primary school, on the outskirts of the village.
The Maoists also left behind some posters in which they justified the killing by branding the youth as a police informer.
The youth had recently informed the police about the presence of some Maoists at Melsikia village in the district. Acting on the information, police had raided the area and killed a top woman Maoist in an encounter.
From the superscription in the posters, it is being suspected that the Maoists belong to the Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division.
Meanwhile, police and the CRPF personnel rushed to the village on Friday for an on-the-spot investigation.
Combing operation has also been intensified in the area, the reports added.
