Phulbani: In a fresh eruption of violence by the Maoists, a young man of a village has allegedly been killed in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
According to police sources, a group of armed Maoists came to Badipanga village under Kotgad police limits of Kandhamal late Monday night. They went to the house of the youth, identified as Metla Majhi, and took him at gun-point with them.
On Tuesday morning, the body of Metla was found by the villagers in a forest near the village. His body bore several stabbing marks. A poster of the Maoists was also found near the body.
The hand-written poster, signed by Baghuna divisional committee of the banned outfit, stated that Metla was eliminated as he was a police informer.
On being informed, a team from Kotgad police station went to Badipanga and sent the body for post-mortem.
It may be noted that a hardcore Maoist was killed during an encounter with security forces in a forest in Nabarangpur district on May 9, ahead of first phase of elections in the state on May 13.
