Bhawanipatna: Four villagers, including a village guard, who were abducted by Maoists from Lakhpadar village under Lanjigarh block in Kalahandi district a couple of days back, returned home on Sunday.
Babula Nayak, Raju Nayak, Khetra Harijan (village guard) and Bisikeshan Harijan were abducted from their houses by a group of 10-12 armed Maoists. After two days of confinement, the rebels freed them this morning.
Though the reason behind the abduction is yet to be known, some villagers suspect that the ultras might have kidnapped them on the suspicion of being police informers.
Following the incident, police have tightened security in the area.
On Saturday, Maoists had put up posters in Danabad area under Baipariguda police limits of Koraput district issuing death sermons against five villagers – Anand Nayak, Pulo Nayak, Lokiram Barik and Kobrajkida The poster was released in the name of Malkangiri Koraput Visakhapatnam Border (MKVB) Committee of CPI (Maoist).
