Phulbani: Maoists and security forces exchanged fire near Kolampara village under Gochhada police limits in Kandhamal district on April 4, informed police on Wednesday. The security forces also busted a Maoist camp and recovered several items from the place.
According to reports, basing on reliable inputs of Maoists presence in the area a joint team of SOG and DVF-Kandhamal launched an anti-Naxal operation on April 4.
The joints teams were combing the area on April 5 morning hen when Maoists opened fire. Following protocol, police party took cover and asked Maoists to surrender.
But, the rebels continued firing and police had to fire back in a controlled manner in self-defence. Taking advantage of dense forest, the Maoists escaped from the spot. No casualty was reported.
