Bhubaneswar: Suspected Maoists allegedly killed a man on the suspicion of being a police informer at Khalepara village under Raighar block of Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as Chandan Mallick (42).
According to police, more than 25 cadres of the outlawed outfit reached the village around 9 pm and forcibly took Chandan to a nearby field. They then tied his hands and thrashed him mercilessly. Later, they strangled Chandan to death using a rope.
Posters were later found in which the ultras blamed Nabarangpur SP, Chhattisgarh Police and Intelligence Department were responsible for the death. They mentioned that Chandan was earlier warned at a ‘Jan Adalat’ for informing police about their movement and presence. As he continued to help the police, he was given the death punishment, it added.
Raighar police have recovered the body and started an investigation into the incident.
