Nuapada: Maoists have allegedly threatened a woman sarpanch candidate for the three-tier panchayat elections in Odisha’s Nuapada district.
Mina Jagat, the sarpanch candidate for Palaspada village under Godal panchayat, found a Maoist poster on her house wall, on Saturday morning.
The poster signed as ‘Laal Salaam’ demanded an extortion of Rs 30,000, failing to pay which the Maoists have threatened to kidnap her son.
Mina’s husband Nabaghana has lodged a complaint with Sinapali police station with the poster.
Sinapali is a Maoist-infested area, the Red Cross has insisted an investigation into the truth of the poster.
However, it is yet to be confirmed if the poster is by the Maoists. Some locals have rubbished it as rumours saying that the area is always busy and would not be easy for Maoists to sneak in and leave the message.
Local SDPO said it will be clear after investigation into the circumstances under which the poster was killed.
