Nuapada: A marauding leopard has unleashed fear in some parts of Odisha’s Nuapada district, having killed two cows and two calves in five villages of the district in the last few days.
According to sources, the leopard was sighted on the fringe of Lodara village on Tuesday while people of Pabaltola and Tiria Mahuabhata villages claimed to have seen the big cat wandering in their area.
“We are living amid fear and farmers also avoid going to their farmland near the forest,” locals said.
Bhagirathi Bhoi , a village of Tiria Mahuabhatta, said that the big cat sneaked into his cattle shed at midnight and attacked a calf. He woke up hearing the cry of the cattle, but the leopard had left by then. The big cat reported to have killed an ox of one Mahesh Nayak at the same village on March 9.
Meanwhile, a team of forest officials visited the spot and started an investigation.
