Bhubaneswar: The Market Building at Unit II in the city was closed by the traders’ association following a dispute between a trader and a street vendor on Tuesday.
According to sources, a woman vendor had forcibly occupied a portion of the walkway in front of the trader’s shop. When the shop owner objected to it, she misbehaved with him and abused him in foul language. She also allegedly damaged the trader’s vehicle.
Protesting against the vendor’s behaviour, the Central Market Association of the Market Building decided to close the shopping complex. They locked up the entrance gates of the Market building.
The sources said the association has resolved to keep the gates closed to the customers till all the street vendors on the premises are vacated.
On being informed about the closure of the Market Building, the officials of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Capital police station visited the complex to resolve the matter.
But the association members stuck to their demand and did not open the shops. However, they agreed to hold a meeting with the officials on Wednesday.
