Kendrapada: A police constable in Odisha’s Kendrapada district has been arrested for allegedly sexually exploiting a 23-year-old woman over more than a year by posing as a bachelor and repeatedly promising to marry her.
The accused, identified as Srutiranjan Khuntia (30), was serving at Tantiapala Marine police station when the alleged offence took place.
According to the complainant, Khuntia established a physical relationship with
her on multiple occasions under the pretext of marriage. When she pressed him for marriage, he began threatening her. The victim later found out that Khuntia was already married.
She lodged a formal complaint with the police on Friday.
Khuntia was arrested on Saturday under Sections 69 (sexual intercourse by deceitful means or false promise of marriage), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 324(4) (mischief causing substantial property damage), and 296 (obscene acts) of the BNS.
Kendrapada Town IIC Dilip Sahoo informed that the accused was produced in a court, which rejected his bail plea and remanded him to judicial custody. The complainant also underwent a medical examination at the district headquarters hospital here, and her statement was recorded as part of the ongoing investigation, he added.
