Balasore: Police have arrested a married man for allegedly raping a visually and hearing impaired woman in Odisha’s Balasore.
According to sources, the victim, belonging to Udala in Mayurbhanj district, was staying with her married sister at Badapokhari near Oupada in Balasore district. The accused man, Baidhar Singh of Gajamba village under Oupada police station, came in contact with the victim as he frequently visited Badapokhari.
On Friday, when Baidhar went to the victim’s house, he found her sister and brother-in-law were not present. Taking advantage of the situation, he convinced the physically challenged woman that he would accommodate her in a shelter house in Soro and took her with him on his bike.
On the way to Soro, Baidhar diverted from the road and went to a forest near Manipur village. He raped the woman there and fled, the sources said.
Later, some locals found the woman crying and informed the police. A team from Soro police station went to the spot and rescued the woman.
After she told the entire incident through sign language, the police nabbed Baidhar on Saturday. Later, they arrested him after registering a case. The police also sent the victim woman to a shelter home after medical examination.
