Cuttack: In a shocking incident, a married man and a girl were found hanging from a tree at Alipur village under Salipur police limits of Odisha’s Cuttack district on Saturday morning.
The man was identified as Manoj Samal (30) of Alipur village, while the girl aged around 17 years hailed from a neighbouring village Paga. Locals said the two were in a relationship for the last several months.
According to sources, the man was married five years ago and had a three-year-old son. However, locals said he had been in a relationship with the teenager for the past few months.
The girl’s father lodged a complaint with Paga police outpost on Friday evening about her missing. The girl’s family members said they were unaware of Manoj’s relationship with her.
The teenage girl allegedly visited Samal’s residence, from where they both departed together and subsequently went missing. Since Samal didn’t return home on Friday night, his family searched for him but failed to trace him.
Locals spotted him hanging from a tree with a girl in the morning and informed the police.
The bodies were sent for autopsy, while police launched an investigation to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident. While it appeared to be a case of double-suicide, the exact reason will be known after a thorough probe, police said.
