Married Woman Poisons Lover’s Fiancée On Engagement Day In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A 23-year-old girl was allegedly poisoned by a married woman, also her neighbour, at Damarapur village in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.on the day of her engagement to a man with whom the latter reportedly had an extra-marital affair.

Police have detained the accused identified as 37-year-old Munni Bibi of Damarapur village within Pattamundai Rural police limits.

According to sources, Munni allegedly had an illicit relationship with a 29-year-old youth of Pattamundai town for the last two years. The news of his proposed marriage enraged her and she had since been reportedly looking for an opportunity to eliminate the girl, which she got on the day of the engagement ceremony when the victim’s family members went to the man’s house leaving her alone at home. The accused then went to girl’s house and allegedly offered her cold drink laced with pesticides.

Following which, the girl started vomiting and became serious. She was rushed to community health centre at Pattamundai by some villagers and later shifted to the district headquarters hospital at Kendrapada town as her condition worsened.

On being informed, police reached the village and detained the accused woman for questioning. “We have also seized a pesticide bottle from near the house of the victim girl,” a police officer said.
