Maruti Suzuki retained the top five spots in sales despite the industry posting a 6.2 per cent drop in year-on-year sales in January 2020.
Lack of liquidity is cited as one of the top reasons for the slow down. March will mark the last month for BS4 vehicles, though experts predict there will not be chaotic last-minute discounts like it happened during BS3 phase-out.
Coming to top sales, apart from Maruti, Kia’s Seltos rakes in at the sixth spot with 15,000 units, an achievement, as it is the most expensive car in the top 10 list.
Maruti’s Dzire topped the list with 22,406 units, followed by Baleno at 20,485 units and Swift at 19,981 units. Entry-level Alto came down to the 4th position followed by tall boy Wagon R. Maruti claims that a good amount of sales of both these cars come from CNG variants.
The Maruti Vitara Brezza stood at number eight, while rest of the spots were occupied by Hyundai’s. The Grand i10 sold 8,774 units, while Elite i20 sold 8,137 units.
