Maruti Suzuki has added a CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) variant to its popular WagonR. The new variant is BS6 compliant. Here are the ex-showroom Delhi prices:
LXI – Rs. 5.25 lakh
LXI (O) – Rs. 5.32 lakh
It is powered by the K-Series 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder engine that produces 58 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 78 Nm on CNG mode. On petrol, the engine makes 67 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 90 Nm @ 3,500 rpm.
The CNG variant comes only with the manual gearbox. The tank has a capacity of 60-litres.
According to Maruti, the WagonR S-CNG is equipped with dual interdependent ECUs (Electronic Control Units) and injection system. Like other cars, the efficiency has reduced from 33.54km/kg to 32.52km/kg after the BS6 upgrade. In petrol mode, it shows 21.79 kmpl according to ARAI.
CNG is considered to be less polluting than petrol and diesel.
In Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, the running cost for WagonR BS6 on CNG is around Rs 1.7 per km, nearly half that of petrol (Rs 3.25 per km).
