Rourkela: In a daring act, masked miscreants tied and gagged a railway junior engineer and committed robbery in his house in Odisha’s Rourkela in the early hours of Saturday.
Sources said the miscreants also threatened the JE, identified as Dilip Panda, with murder while looting cash and valuables from his house.
Panda, who lives alone at his government quarter in Rourkela Diesel Colony, was asleep when the robbers barged into his house by breaking open his window grill. They were wearing masks and carried sharp-edged weapons.
They first tied up Panda using ropes and held him hostage in a room before looting all the cash, gold, silver, and other valuables from the house. They later fled leaving both his hands and legs tied.
The matter came to the fore after neighbours heard his scream for help and untied him. The local police were alerted who rushed to the house and launched a probe into the incident.
