Sambalpur: Repeated burglaries allegedly carried out by a naked-masked man have shaken residents of Odisha’s Sambalpur. The burglar’s movements have been caught on CCTV camera in Sason area of the city over the last few days, said sources.
The CCTV footage shows the thief moving covertly through the night with his body naked and his face concealed. With locals alarmed, the police have initiated a detailed investigation into the matter.
The issue came to light on August 31, when Ranikhinda village resident Arun Agarwal lodged a complaint with the Sason police station.
The CCTV footage he provided showed the thief, naked and masked, looting cartons of face wash, baking powder, hair oil, toothpaste, and cooking oil from his shop.
Another CCTV footage from the same location showed a burglar breaking into a house and taking food. Residents wondered if the same individual was responsible in both occasions because the miscreant was only wearing short pants in this footage.
Several residents have come forward since the CCTV footage went viral, claiming to have seen similar instances in the last few weeks, the sources added.
The police suspects the burglar could have shed clothes as it was raining heavily on the night he went out. Meanwhile, Sambalpur police have started probing into the case on the basis of multiple complaints received in this connection .
