Rourkela: Amid COVID-19 resurgence fear, mass testing of all students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, began on Saturday.
Sources in the NIT said that the tests, jointly conducted by the NIT authorities and the local administration, will continue for three days till March 29 after which the hostels will remain closed from March 30.
Four students of the institute had tested positive for the virus between March 10 and 25. The first case ( a student from Nagpur) was detected on March 10 while two more students tested positive for the virus on March 15 and 22. Another student was found infected on March 25.

It may be recalled that following the detection of COVID-19 positive cases on the campus, the NIT students had urged the authorities to conduct online examinations.
Keeping the demands of the students, the NIT authorities had an emergency senate meeting on Friday and decided to come up with a fresh notification on the online examination schedule and inform the students about the examination schedule in advance.
