Washington: At least eight people lost lives, which included four Sikhs, and five others were severely injured in a mass shooting at a FedEx facility in the United State’s Indiana, as per community leaders.
The gunman was identified as 19-year-old Brandon Scott Hole of Indiana. The teenage gunman allegedly died by suicide after Thursday night’s shooting at the FedEx facility in Indianapolis, which took the toll to nine.
Majority of the workers at this delivery service facility are said to be Indian-Americans, mostly from the Sikh community.
“This is very heart breaking. The Sikh community is devastated by this tragic incident,” community leader Gurinder Singh Khalsa was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
Marion County Coroner’s Office and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) announced the names of the victims late on Friday night. They have been identified as Amarjeet Johal (66), Jasvinder Kaur (64), Amarjit Skhon (48) and Jaswinder Singh (68). Among them, the first three were women.
According to the IMPD, the coroner’s office will determine the causes of death after the autopsies are carried out. Another Sikh, Harpreet Singh Gill, 45 was hit by a bullet near the eye and is now under treatment in the hospital.
