Moscow: Ukraine carried out a massive drone attack on Russian capital Moscow on Sunday. A facility at the Moscow Oil Refinery was damaged in the ongoing attack, TASS news agency reported.
This came days after US president Donald Trump urged Ukraine to refrain from targetting oil facilities in Russia to ensure uninterrupted flow of diesel.
The drone attack is still underway, Moscow mayor Sergey Sobyanin said, confirming that a facility on the premises of the refinery had sustained damage. There were no casualties, he said.
“The attack on Moscow by enemy drones is ongoing. A facility on the premises of the Moscow Oil Refinery has sustained damage, but no casualties were reported,” Sobyanin wrote on the Max messenger, The Indian Express has quoted TASS as saying.
The mayor said that first responders were deployed to the site following the reported damage. Emergency personnel were also working in areas where fragments from intercepted drones had fallen.
Russian authorities claimed that a large number of drones had been intercepted while approaching Moscow.
The number of drones downed while approaching the Russian capital had reached 186, TASS reported.
The extent of the damage at the Moscow Oil Refinery was not immediately detailed in the information provided by the agency.
Hostilities between Russia and Ukraine are continuing despite global efforts to resolve the crisis. Moscow and other Russian regions having faced repeated drone attacks during the conflict. There are no details on the specific locations from where the drones were launched or the Ukrainian side’s response to the reported attack.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied reports of plans to mobilise 300,000 people by the end of the year, saying there were no such plans.
