Angul: A massive fire broke out at the captive power plant of National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco) on Tuesday afternoon.
Seeing smoke and flames emanating from the 8th unit of the captive power plant, the employees informed fire tenders. Eight to 10 fire tenders of Nalco’s own fire fighting service were pressed into service to douse the flames. It took them more than two hour to bring the situation under control.
Though no casualty or injury was reported in the fire mishap, a generator transformer valued at around Rs 15 crore was badly damaged, a Nalco official said.
The fire personnel suspect that an electrical short circuit could have sparked the fire.
