Vijayawada: A hotel-turned-COVID-19 facility, Swarna Palace, in Vijayawada city saw a major fire that killed at least seven people and injured 10 on Sunday morning.
According to sources, short circuit is thought to be the reason behind the fire, but there’s no confirmation as yet. About 30 COVID-19 patients were undergoing treatment inside the building when the fire broke out. The patients were shifted to another hospital, it is learnt.
Vijayawada Commissioner of Police Srinivasulu is also learnt to have reached the spot to oversee the rescue operation. Four fire tenders were also engaged to douse the fire. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is closely monitoring the situation.
