Bhubaneswar: A teacher of a private school in the Odisha capital was arrested on Thursday for allegedly sexually harassing a Class VII girl student of the institution.
The accused has been identified Sanjay Patnaik, a Maths teacher.
Police had detained him for questioning the previous day.
Patnaik was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl’s parents at Lingaraj police station, alleging that he had been mentally and physically harassing their daughter for the past four months.
They found her crying one day and after repeated cajoling, she narrated her ordeal. The teacher had molested her and also threatened to eliminate her family if she reported the incident to anyone, they said in the complaint.
When they took it up with the principal of the school, the latter offered them Rs 10,000 to suppress the matter, they further alleged.
