Matrimonial Frauds: Odisha Police Issues Advisory For Prospective Brides & Grooms

Bhubaneswar: In a nation obsessed with marriage and where urban citizens are increasingly adopting the online route to find matches, Odisha Police on Tuesday issued an advisory for prospective brides and grooms to avoid getting cheated through matrimonial sites.

This assumes significance against the backdrop of rise in matrimonial fraud cases.

GUIDELINES

>> Collect details about the background of the person concerned.

>> Don’t share personal details immediately

>> Do not fall for glib talks of the person concerned.

Issuing these guidelines, Odisha Police said that these steps in choosing a spouse can protect you from a big scam.

Notably, matrimonial sites or apps do not have any stringent KYC (know-your-customer) procedures in place and readily accept documents or facts provided by fake profiles, which enables and facilitates fraud. Cheating and fraud through matrimonial sites are crimes punishable under the Indian Penal Code, according to reports.
