Bengaluru: In a landmark order, a Bengaluru consumer court asked matrimony company Dil Mil to pay Rs 60,000 to its customer for failing to find a suitable bride for a groom.
The groom’s father filed a case against the matrimony company, alleging that he was ill-treated when questioned about their services, reported Deccan Herald.
A three-member Fourth Additional District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Bengaluru, presided by Ramachandra MS, passed the order on October 28.
Kumar, the groom’s father, said in his complaint that he had reached out to Dil Mil after watching their social media promotion to find a suitable bride for his son Balaji in March.
Promising to find a bride for his son within a month, Dil Mil took Rs 30,000 as its initial fee.
In April, when Kumar sought an update from the matrimony company, they asked him to wait until the end of April.
But Kumar claimed that not even a single match was sent to him even after April.
Kumar then sent legal notices to the matrimony company in May.
However, the company did not provide legal representation even after the court sent notices. Dil Mil also didn’t file any objection to Kumar’s complaint.
Last week, the court ordered Dil Mil to refund Rs 30,000 with 6% interest and Rs 20,000 as compensation for poor service. The company was ordered to pay another Rs 5000 for causing the customer mental agony and Rs 5000 for legal proceedings.
“If the opposite party failed to appear before the court or file an affidavit from their side, the allegations can be held as proved facts,” the court said, highlighting a 2018 order.
