Mayurbhanj Rape-Murder Case: CM Announces Rs 5L Ex-Gratia For Victim’s Family

Baripada: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday announced an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh for the next of the kin of the minor girl child, who was allegedly raped and then murdered at Moroda in Mayurbhanj district.

Expressing grief over incident, Naveen ordered for a speedy trial of this heinous case.

Meanwhile, police have arrested the accused identified as Jamini Mahanta (27). Some locals caught hold Mahanta and handed him over to police.

The body of the girl was recovered from a forest near Garudabasa village in the district this morning.

The victim’s family members had claimed that the girl had gone out to revel in the festivities of Raja with a local youth on Friday. After the celebration, he reportedly took her to a secluded place and committed the heinous crime. He is further accused of strangulating the child to death.
