Bhubaneswar: An MCA student allegedly committed suicide during a video call with his girlfriend in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Tuesday.
According to sources, the student, pursing MCA in a private university in Barang, was staying in a rented house at Sandhapur in the area. He made a video call to his girlfriend on his laptop in the evening and hanged himself from the ceiling fan in his room.
Meanwhile, a girl came running to the house and started knocking on the door. As the boy did not open the door, she rushed to the owner of the rented house and told him to open the student’s room which was locked from inside.
The house owner along with some locals also knocked on the door but there was no response. Suspecting something untoward might have happened to the boy, they forcibly opened the window which was closed from inside. They saw the boy hanging and informed the police.
A team from Godisahi police outpost went to the spot and brought the body down. Later, they sent the body for post-mortem after making enquiries with the house owner and the locals. However, the boy’s girlfriend was missing by the time the police arrived.
