Bhubaneswar: Delhi Public School (DPS), Kalinga, spanked Venkateswar English Medium School 3-0 in their second and last Group-D match to cruise into the quarterfinals of the MCL Cup 29th Bhubaneswar Inter-School Football Tournament being held at Unit-VI Boys’ High School Ground here on Tuesday.
Rishav Parekh fired the first salvo in the fifth minute to help DPS lead 1-0 at the half-time. After change of ends, Vishal Dev and Somal Puhan scored the other two goals in the 29th and 38th minutes. Somal received the player of the match prize from Panchayati Raj Department Superintending Engineer Siba Narayan Barik.
Sai International School got walk-over in the second match of the day against Prabhujee English Medium School, who did not turn up. But despite getting full three points through walk-over, Sai International missed the last-eight berth on goal difference in Group E. Buxi Jagabandhu English Medium School (BJEMS) secured the quarterfinal spot from this group with four points from two games and a goal difference of 5-1 against 4-1 by Sai International.
Today’s matches were conducted by match commissioner Maheswar Singh along with referees Saroj Moharana, Rajendra Barik, Chandrakant Barik, Sekhawat Khan and Bulbul Bhoi. The tournament is being organised by Unit-VI Athletic Association.
