Berhampur: The Ganjam district administration has sealed a private hospital in the city following the death of a woman due to alleged medical negligence.
The Gurudev Hospital, which was earlier raided by the administration officials, was sealed in the presence of the sub-collector on Friday.
According to sources, one Aiswarya Singh Deo was admitted to the hospital on Monday (February 17) after she complained of stomach ache. The 24-year-old was later diagnosed with appendicitis. The doctors decided to operate on her, but she died while being taken out of the operation theatre that night.
Her family members attributed her death to higher doses of anesthesia administered to her. They also staged a protest demanding cancellation of the hospital’s licence.
A kin of the deceased allegedly thrashed the attending doctor, who along with the hospital owner was later detained by police for questioning.
