Rourkela: Medical Officer of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela was found hanging in his house here on Monday.
According to sources, the medical Officer, identified as Dr Santosh Hugar from Karnataka and aged around 30 years, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his official quarters, where he was residing alone, on the premises of the NIT.
The doctor, who was unmarried, had reportedly joined the institute in 2023.
The matter came to light when he did not report to duty this morning. His colleague failed to contact him and sought information on him from another doctor residing in the same building. He then checked Hugar’s room through the balcony and found him hanging.
On being informed, security guards of NIT-R and Sector-3 police broke open the door. The body was seized in presence of a scientific team. A suicide note was reportedly also found at the spot, suggesting he might have taken the extreme step over a failed relationship.
While Hugar is suspected to have died by suicide, the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained. The autopsy will be conducted after his family members arrive here on Tuesday, the sources added.
