Rayagada: A medical team has been rushed to a village in Odisha’s Rayagada district after four persons died due to unknown ailment in the last three days.
According to sources, several villagers of K Korala village under Kasipur block of the district fell ill in the last few days. They complained of stomach pain, cold and shivering.
While they resorted to home remedy, four of them died in the last 3 days. They are Champa Sahu, Khaga Jhadia, Abhi Ghantia and Bana Jhadia. Several others, affected by illness, have been admitted in the local hospital.
Though the cause of illness has not been confirmed, consumption of polluted water from a stream near the village is suspected to have led to infection and subsequent symptoms.
After coming to know about the death of the villagers, chief district medical officer of Rayagada Lalit Mohan Routray has deputed a team of doctors and health officials to K Korala. They will conduct health check-up of the affected villagers and also collect water samples for test, he said.
The CDMO said the cause of illness would be known after the medical team submits report. However, they will try to take up treatment in the village. Otherwise, arrangements would be made to admit them in hospital, he added.
