Sambalpur: In the wake of diarrhoea outbreak at Hirakud in Odisha’s Sambalpur district, a special medical team from Bhubaneswar is all set to inspect the water purification system in the town on Monday.
As per official information, the medical team is slated to collect samples of drinking water from the treatment and purification centre and send the same to the laboratory for test.
Meanwhile, the number of diarrhoea-infected patients in Hirakud town stood at 172 on Monday. With no substantial rise in the number of new patients in Hirakud Hospital, the diarrhoea situation appears to be gradually coming under control.
A doctor, who went to Hirakud from Sambalpur four days ago, also got infected with diarrhoea. He was reportedly admitted to hospital for two days. The patients complain of symptoms like lose motion, vomiting and rapid dehydration.
While the state government is yet to make any statement on the source of contamination, the ground reports indicated leaked and damaged pipes laid by the Public Health Department (PHD) seemed to have led to the outbreak of diarrhoea in the town.
Locals said that the PHD authorities should know about the damaged pipes and repair them accordingly.
