Bhubaneswar: Medieval Literature And Traditions, a book that sheds new light on the period’s culture, by eminent linguist and littérateur Gaganendra Nath Dash was published recently.
Published by Prafulla, the book consists of three parts, each focusing on three topics — Jayadeva’s Gita Govinda, Jagannath Das’s Odia Bhagabata and the Jajpur-Yayati tradition.
Each part consists of two essays, which the author wrote at different times. One from each part have already been published. The other three are being published for the first time.
Das has served as Professor of Odia and Linguistics at Berhampur University. He has published several books and scholarly papers on Odia language, literature, and Odisha’s history, in both Odia and English. He was the co-editor of Imaging Odisha, a book on the cultural and historical traditions of the state.
Among other awards, he is the recipient of Atibadi Jagannath Das Award by Odisha Sahitya Akademi and Bhasha Samman by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.
