Puri: Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board, Sanjay Das Burma on Saturday directed the administration to be ready as a medium scale flood is likely to hit the district.
Reviewing the flood situation in Puri district with senior officers, Burma instructed to keep a close watch on the vulnerable points of embankments in the district. Daya, Bharagavi, Makara, Luna and Ratnachira rivers are expected to receive 5 lakh cusec of water from Mahanadi system and will be discharged to Chilika system by these rivers, he said.
Deployment of NDRF and ODRAF personnel, medical facilities and supply of safe drinking water to the affected people should be kept in readiness, he said.
Besides, the district administration should be ready for relief and restoration. Burma instructed the Revenue authorities to assess crop loss just after the flood.
Puri collector Balwant Singh said a meeting on the flood situation was held with BDOs, tehsildars and IICs of the district through video conference on Friday and the administration is prepared to face any eventualities.
Besides the collector, the meeting was attended by ADM (General) Pradeep Kumar Sahu; ADM (Revenue) Subash Nath Sharma; Sub-Collector, Puri Bhabartana Sahu; Supdt Engineer, central circle Chinmay Rout; Executive Engineer, drainage Bhagban Chandra Das.
