New Delhi: The Central government on Monday appointed Vinay Mohan Kwatra as the next Foreign Secretary.
Kwatra, currently serving as India’s envoy to Nepal, will succeed Harsh Vardhan Shringla who will be retiring on April 30. Shringla will take over as Coordinator of G-20 summit which will be hosted by New Delhi in November 2023.
Kwatra is a 1988 batch IFS officer, and former ambassador to France.
During his 32 years in service, he has worked in Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as Joint Secretary and served on key desks like America and Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan.
He worked closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi before being appointed Ambassador to France. He also has experience of working with current External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
