Bengaluru: An Indian startup, Pravaig Dynamics has revealed a luxury electric sedan that looks futuristic and boasts of impressive specs.
Named ‘Extinction’, it is a four-door coupe sedan measuring 4,820 mm in length and 1,934 mm in width. The dimensions, unconventional design and tech are clear that Pravaig intends to be compared to Tesla – the world’s most popular luxury electric carmaker.
It has a 96 kWh lithium battery with a claimed range of 504 km. It is swappable and can be recharged in 30 minutes to 80 per cent.
Performance, too, is Tesla like, with 201 BHP on tap and a claimed 0-100 kmph in 5.4 seconds and top speed of 196 kmph.
Feature-wise, the Extinction will have lounge-like seating space with the rear seat being able to recline to 165 degree.
It will be loaded with tech such as autonomous driving, Devialet audio system with smartphone connectivity, HEPA air filter and more. For safety, there will be 8 airbags and a 5 star rating, the company claims.
Pravaig will make 250 units a year and sell in 2021 starting from Delhi and Bengaluru only.
Can Pravaig be successful?
It is very clear that Pravaig is waking on similar lines to the Tesla. However, the path has already been tried out by other tech startups such as Fisker and Faraday Future who have unfortunately failed after huge investments as well. Then there is the competition from legacy makers such as Nissan, Hyundai, Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, etc who are increasing their electric portfolio.
Another hurdle is battery technology. Tesla, currently, is believed to be 6 years ahead of the competition. Getting ahead in battery tech is the key to lowering costs. Where Pravaig might be able to get an upper hand is frugal Indian engineering. Backed by renewable energy firm Eren group of France, this startup will be interesting to watch out for.
