New York: A 38-year-old American woman has forced her way into the Guinness World Records.
Her achievement – growing the longest beard on a living female.
Erin Honeycutt’s beard measures 11.8 inch, and is the result of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome — a condition that causes hormonal imbalance and can lead to excess hair growth.
Erin was diagnosed with this condition at the age of 13. She initially tried to tame her growing beard by shaving up to three times a day, waxing and using hair-removal products.
But after losing her vision partly because of an eye stroke triggered by high blood pressure, she decided to stop shaving and let her beard grow, encouraged by her wife Jen.
Erin officially surpassed the previous record of 10.04-inch beard held by 75-year-old Vivian Wheeler on February 8, 2023.
Adding to Erin’s health struggles was the amputation of lower half of one of her legs due to a bacterial infection.
Despite her significant health issues, Erin’s accomplishment has been possible due to her positive outlook towards life and her belief that it aids in her healing process.
