Srinagar: Mehbooba Mufti’s car was involved in a terrible accident on Thursday afternoon, but fortunately the former Jammu & Kashmir chief minister escaped unhurt.
The accident took place at Sangam in Jammu & Kashmir’s Anantnag district when the black Scorpio, in which Mufti was travelling, collided with another car at Sangam.
Pictures from the accident site showed the bonnet of Scorpio being reduced to a mangled heap of metal following the crash.
“Ms Mufti’s car met with a terrible accident en route Anantnag today. Thanks to the grace of god she & her security officers escaped unhurt without any serious injuries,” her daughter posted Iltija on X.
Mufti, who was on way to Khanabal to meet the victims of a fire accident, continued with her scheduled visit after another car was arranged for her.
National Conference leader and another former J & K CM Omar Abdullah urged the government to probe the mishap.
“Glad to hear that @MehboobaMufti Sahiba escaped injury in what could have been a very serious incident. I expect the government to enquire in to the circumstances of the accident. Any gaps in her security that contributed to this accident must be addressed immediately,” Omar wrote on X.
