Nayagarh: In a shocking incident, a mentally challenged woman was allegedly raped and stabbed with a sharp weapon at a village in Itamati area of Odisha’s Nayagarh district.
As per preliminary information, the injured woman has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Nayagarh in critical condition following the incident that took place at Baunsiapada village under the jurisdiction of Itamati police station on Wednesday night.
The incident reportedly took place when the woman was sleeping beside the road in the village when the accused, identified as Panda, raped and then stabbed her with a knife. The accused, who was reported to be in an inebriated state, left the place after critically injuring the woman.
The woman was rushed to the hospital on Thursday morning after she was found lying in a pool of blood.
Stating that the woman is mentally unstable, a police official said her family has complained that somebody has physically assaulted her after raping her late on Wednesday and investigation is underway.
The accused has reportedly been taken into custody on the basis of the complaint lodged by the woman’s family.
