Bhubaneswar: Odisha experienced no respite from heat wave on Friday when as many as 18 places recorded maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, mercury breached 42 degree Celsius in as many as 7 places in the state.
Balangir was the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 43.7 degree Celsius, followed by Sonepur and Sambalpur with 43 degree. While Boudh and Sundargarh recorded 42.8 degree each, Jharsuguda registered 42.6, Rourkela 42.2 and Nuapada and Bargarh 42 degree each,
In its temperature forecast, the IMD stated that no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely at many places in Odisha during next 5 days. It is likely to be 42 degree C or more at one or two places during next 2 days and at a few places during subsequent 3 days in some districts of interior Odisha including Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Jharsuguda and Nuapada.
Hot and discomfort weather is very likely to prevail due to the heat wave and people are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11 am and 3 pm, it added.
The Met office has also issued orange warning and forecast that thunderstorm with lightning, hail, squall and gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada by 8.30 am on Saturday.
