Mercury Breaches 42 Degree Celsius In 8 Places of Odisha; Sambalpur Hottest

Bhubaneswar: As many as 15 places in Odisha recorded maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius on Sunday amid the IMD forecast of thunderstorm with lightning in several places for next 5 days.

According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, mercury crossed 42 degree in 8 places on the day.

Sambalpur continued to be the hottest place in the state as it recorded maximum temperature of 44 degree Celsius. It was followed by Boudh with 43.5 degree, Balangir 43.3, Sonepur 43.1, Hirakud 42.6, Jharsuguda and Bhawanipatna 42.5, Sundargarh 42.4 and Rourkela 42.2.

The IMD has forecast that thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Nabarangapur, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur by 8.30 am on Monday.

Besides, hailstorm is likely at one or two places in the districts of Nabarangapur, Balangir, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Koraput and Kandhamal.

Thunderstorm with lightning is also very likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nuapada and Malkangiri during the period, the Met office said.
