Bhubaneswar: Life in most parts of Odisha was disrupted on Wednesday following a steep rise in temperature.
While Titlagarh was the hottest at 40.5 degree Celsius, Sambalpur recorded 40.3 degree Celsius.
Besides, temperature hovered around 35 degrees Celsius and above at 18 places: Balasore (36), Chandbali (37.2), Cuttack (37.8), Bhubaneswar (39.4), Angul (39.7), Baripada (39.4), Jharsuguda (39.2), Keonjhar (36.6), Sundargarh (37.5), Hirakud (39.1), Talcher (39.9), Bhawanipatna (38), Bolangir (39.3), Phulbani (36.8), Koraput (36.6), Malkangiri (39.6), Sonepur (39) and Dhenkanal (38.8).
Coastal areas of Paradip, Gopalpur and Puri also recorded 32 degree Celsius and above accompanied by intense humid conditions.
A meteorology office release here in the evening predicted fall in temperature as there was possibility of nor’wester (Kala Baisakhi) in some parts of coastal and north Odisha districts in the next 24 hours.
“Temperature will go up to 37 Degrees Celsius during the first half tomorrow (on Thursday) at some places in coastal and north Odisha districts. However, there is a distinct possibility of nor’wester (Kala Baisakhi) in these areas in the afternoon accompanied by rain and thundershower. Besides, wind speed will be around 50-60 kmph during the period. As Kala Baisakhi will take place at some places in these areas till March 19, there will be a fall in the day and night temperatures. However, temperature will go up again from March 20,” Director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, told mediapersons.
