Mercury Crosses 41 Degree Celsius In 4 Western Odisha Towns; Titlagarh Hottest Place

Bhubaneswar: Even as temperature crossed 42 degree Celsius in Titlagarh and 8 urban centres in western Odisha recorded 40 degree or more on Wednesday, the IMD forecast further rise in heat in next two days.

Titlagarh, which has been topping the temperature chart for the last few days, was the hottest place in the state with mercury shooting up to 42.7 degree Celsius on the day from 41.5 degree on Tuesday and 40.5 degree on Monday.

Titlagarh was followed by Balangir with 42.5 degree Celsius, Sonepur 41.9 degree, Jharsuguda 41.2, Bhawanipatna and Boudh 41 each and Sambalpur and Sundargarh 40 degree Celsius each.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 34.8 and 38.1 degree Celsius respectively. The seaside town of Gopalpur continued to record the lowest temperature in the state at 30.2 degree Celsius.

The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its evening bulletin, stated that trough/wind discontinuity persists from interior Odisha to Telangana across Chhattisgarh extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level.

It forecast that maximum temperature (day temperature) is very likely to rise gradually by 2 to 3 degree Celsius during next 2 days. Maximum temperature is very likely to be above normal by 3 to 5 degree Celsius at many places in the districts of interior Odisha during next 3-4 days.

The IMD has issued yellow warning for next three days. It has forecast that heatwave condition is very likely to occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir and Bargarh till Thursday.

Similarly, heatwave condition is likely in Bargarh, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Angul and Sambalpur districts on Friday and Bargarh, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Angul and Sambalpur districts on Saturday.
