Mercury Dips At Several Places In Odisha, Colder Days Ahead; Check IMD Forecast & Yellow Warning

Bhubaneswar: With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting the return of the cold wave, Odisha woke up to a cold foggy morning on Thursday with the minimum temperature dipping at several places and Daringbadi being the coldest at 9.5 degree Celsius. It had recorded 12 degree Celsius on Wednesday. 

According to data shared by IMD, Jharsuguda recorded 10 degree Celsius, 4 degrees less than the previous day. Koraput was tied with Jharsuguda at 10 degree Celsius and saw 2.6 degrees fall in temperature. The mercury plummeted to 10.2 degree Celsius in Keojhar from 15 degree Celsius the previous day.

Similarly, the minimum temperature fell to 10.5 degree Celsius at Sundargarh from 15 degree Celsius on Wednesday. Phulbani also recorded 10.5 degree Celsius,  4 degrees less than the day before.

The twin cities of Cuttack (16.2) and Bhubaneswar (16.4) saw a slight drop in temperature since yesterday.

According to the MeT office, cold wave is likely to grip Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Sonepur and Balangir from 8.30 am on January 28 to 8.30 am on January 29.

One or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Sonepur, Balangir, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul and  Kalahandi are likely to experience similar conditions during the subsequent 24 hours.

Cold wave condition is also likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda,  Keonjhar, Sonepur, Balangir, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul and  Kalahandi till 8.30 am on January 31.

Yellow warning has been issued for these three days.

“The night temperature is very likely to fall by 3 to 4 degree Celsius at many places during the next 2 days. There will be no large change thereafter,” it added.

While dry weather will prevail in the state for the next few days, the IMD has forecast shallow to moderate fog at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal and Ganjam till 8.30 am on January 28.
