Bhubaneswar: With a cold wave tightening its grip over Odisha, the night temperature dropped below 15 degrees Celsius in at least 21 places in the state in last 24 hours.
The lowest minimum temperature of 9.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Phulbani, while Semiliguda in Koraput district turned out to be the coldest hill station with 6.5 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
The weather agency issued cold wave warning for state capital Bhubaneswar and neighbouring Cuttack where the minimum temperature stood at 14.8 degrees and 14.4 degrees Celsius respectively.
Both Daringibadi and G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district recorded 8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was 10.2 degrees Celsius in Rourkela, 10.3 degrees in Jharsuguda,10.8 degrees in Chipilima and 11.3 degrees C in Koraput as well as Kirei.
Dense fog was witnessed in Rourkela and Koraput, while Bhawanipatna experienced moderate fog
While there is no further cold wave warning, the IMD on Saturday predicted a rise in the night temperature by 2-3°C after two days.
