Bhubaneswar: Signalling pre-winter weather conditions, morning chill was experienced in several areas of Odisha on Sunday as the night temperature fell considerably.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Phulbani and G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
In state capital Bhubaneswar, the mercury dropped to 19.7 degree Celsius. It fell below 20 degree Celsius for the first time this October, while Cuttack recorded a minimum temperature of 20.2 degree Celsius. Koraput recorded a minimum temperature of 13.8 degree Celsius.
Several parts of the district also experienced dense fog. It is for the second day that dense fog was experienced in Koraput. This caused inconvenience for the commuters following a sharp drop in visibility on roads. Despite this, a huge rush was observed at major religious institutions during the wee hours today.
The MeT Centre said that the maximum temperature recorded a drop at one or two places over north coastal Odisha while no large change was observed in other parts of the state.
While there will be no overall change in the weather conditions in the next couple of days, some parts of Odisha are likely to experience light rain for three days from November 1.
Several areas are likely to experience light rain from November 1-3 under the influence of the eastward movement of waves on Bay of Bengal.
The weather agency has forecast light to moderate rain/thunderstorm at one or two places in Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Malkangiri, Koraput, Khurda, Kandhamal, Rayagada on November 1 with little change in the weather during the subsequent two days.
